Fair Practice acknowledges the recent issuance of the Mediation Directive and accompanying Protocol applicable to the Gauteng Division of the High Court, which came into effect on 22 April 2025. As an internationally accredited training provider through the International Mediation Institute (IMI), and the South African Board of People Practices (SABPP), we welcome the transformative vision laid out in this Directive that elevates the role of mediation in improving access to justice and easing the burden on the judiciary.
We wish to assure our community of trainees, mediators, legal practitioners, and stakeholders that Fair Practice is fully committed to aligning with the administrative processes required to be recognised as a government-registered Recognised Mediation Organisation (RMO) under the new framework.
In this regard, administrative steps are currently being taken to ensure our compliance with the standards and reporting requirements as outlined in Annexures A and B of the Mediation Protocol. Furthermore, we are in the process of obtaining accreditation from the Dispute Settlement Accreditation Council of South Africa (DiSAC), which will complement our IMI and SABPP status and further affirm our standing as a dual-accredited institution under both international and domestic standards.
To support the practitioners who have already completed their Mediation Skills Training through Fair Practice and affiliated institutes, we are pleased to announce that they may apply for membership on our panel of mediators currently at no charge while the formalities around government recognition are being finalised. This is in line with the transitional spirit of the Directive and our ethos of inclusivity and professional empowerment.
We remain committed to fostering a diverse and skilled body of mediators equipped to serve the evolving needs of the South African legal landscape, and we look forward to contributing to the broader implementation of this important reform.
